Newbielympics

The Winds of Dawn hosted our third Newbielympics between Saturday, July 24th and Sunday, August 8th, 2004. Thanks to all the folks who participated and volunteered and contributed prizes!

Who Was Eligible To Participate:

All official Newbielympics events were limited to folks below Lord/Lady level (around 550 ranks). Some parts of events were limited to below Master/Mistress level (around 200 ranks)- any events of this type were be labeled as such. Every exile who participated in an event qualified for a special drawing held at the closing ceremonies for additional prizes.

Himitsu Blue team: Bonk, Esa, Rhone, Elena, Derna, Red team: Lokar, Alkarwen, Stephen, Moonlight, Destian, Red team won the first round, blue won the second round. Each team won 250c per member

Sun, Jul 25, 2004 at 01:00 PM PDT Bard's Field Members of the SDC will drop items that the participants must identify correctly by sending a message to the designated SDC member. Each correct answer is worth a number of points depending on how rare the item is and the two three people will ge prizes to be determined later. SDC (Jeanne) 1st place was Hugh (won 500c and blue shirt), 2nd place was Joseph (won 250c and lime green shirt), 3rd place was Kazik (won 150c and blue pants)
Mon, Jul 26, 2004 at 01:00 PM PDT Meet in Monestary Boat Tour - (Each newbie has to go to X spots and pull the helper who will think to me that they saw the newbie. The newbie has to visit each spot in order and then return to Puddleby in the fastest possible time.) Himitsu 1st place was Stephen (won a chain), 2nd place was Lokar (won a wooden shield), 3rd place was Flooovde (won a bottle of pink paint)

They then run to that spot as fast as they can where they are given another clue and so forth until the end. X helpers required.) Tue, Jul 27, 2004 at 09:00 PM PDT Outside Healer's Guild Cear'vae contest: Each participant will receive a bottle and will have to run the Cear'vae contest. Cear'vae is collecting data on how different types of creatures react to certain substances. He need each participant to find as many different types of creatures as possible in 120 minutes (ooc: ±30 minutes). Each participant must hold up the sample to each creature and observe its reaction. Farhope 1st place was Jaspur (won 300c, forest green pants and a plate of cookies), 2nd place was Calime (won 200c and a box of donuts)
Wed, Jul 28, 2004 at 01:00 PM PDT Meet in Monestary Whiff-a-Fighter. Each contestant tries to tag all 3 of the lying down fighters with high defense. The contestant that tags all 3 with the least number of swings wins Himitsu Lokar came in 1st (won 800c), Windy came in 2nd (won 400c and a bottle of light blue paint), Elena came in 3rd (won 100c and a loaf of beer bread)
Wed, Jul 28, 2004 at 03:00 PM PDT Bard's Field Music Workshop (practice for the competition): We will meet in Bards Field to talk about music composition. Short descriptions and question and answer format centering on how to write a round, but covering any topics of interest such as what tools can I use to write music in clan lord, how do instruments work, what is sheet music, where are the practice rooms, what the heck is a chord? I'll attempt to answer any questions you have. The goal is to go away with enough information to write a round for the round workshop and competition next week. Suggested pre-class reading material includes my tutorial on rounds, Coriakin's School of Music, and the Bards Guild pages. Wed, Jul 28, 2004 at 06:00 PM PDT Meet inside the monestary Hide and Seek - There will be 7 hiders who will go and hide somewhere in the farms or town area (underground is not included). Then all contestants will search for the hiders. The contestant who finds the most hiders wins (there will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize). In the case of tie there will be multiple rounds of hiding and seeking until a clear winner is chosen. Kiriel D'Sol Gragnar came in 1st (won a chain), Flooovde came in 2nd (won an anchor), and Stephen, Rhone and Alkarwen tied for 3rd (won a bottle of paint apiece)
Thu, Jul 29, 2004 at 01:00 PM PDT Meet in Monestary Mystic Push - (The newbies divide into two teams each with a mystic and gathers on the beach. The mystics fall to the surf and each team has to push their mystic to the goal. Hurting the other team with pushing and pulling is allowed. One mystic and two helpers to sit at the goal and to kill stuff.) Himitsu The winning team was Windy, Kazik and Flooovde (they won 200c apiece). The other team was Elena (won a pair of mittens), Revelor and Humus (won a jar of green paint).
Fri, Jul 30, 2004 at 12:00 PM PDT South town, near Kara Goodwife Falling contest: There will be 2 categories for the contest: the new exiles (still not Mistress/Master) and those with Mistress/Master title. Every contestant will ("lock") share with Farhope (or with someone helping her but all with one person), she will say the name of a critter for the new exiles and another for the Mistress/Master. At this moment, the contestants have to rush to find this critter and to fall to it. First winning 10 points, 2nd winning 9 points, ..., 10th winning 1 point (in each category). Healers will go to heal everyone. Everyone meet her back in south town. There will be 3 rounds, each time with another critter. Exile with most points wins the contest in each category. Farhope In the Master/Mistress category, Stephen came in 1st (won 300c and khaki shirt) and Elena came in 2nd (won 200c and cake). In the Exile category, Kazik came in 1st (won 300c and goldenrod shirt) and Milan and Flooovde came in 2nd (won 200c, Milan got brownies and Flooovde got donuts)

Depending on how many folks show up there will be at least two rounds before the final race takes place.) Himitsu 1st place was Kazik (won 200c and a pair of red pumps), 2nd place was Flooovde (won a pair of 200c shoes), 3rd place was Stephen (won 100c)

Wed, Aug 4, 2004 at 03:00 PM PDT Bard's Field Round Workshop and Judging: We will meet in Bards Field and listen to the rounds that everyone has written over the past week. We'll talk about what we liked, what we were trying to do, and what we thought was hard. Rounds will be submitted by email in CLTH format by Tuesday night to Poesy. Last minute entries will be taken if we aren't too crowded. All rounds will be played by any present bards. You should confirm ahead of time that someone with the instrument you've written for will be there to play for you. I will have a Conch, Gitor, Xylo, Bagpipes, Occarina, and Bone Flute. Rounds will be scored by all entrants and any present bards, each person will award 1-5 points for the categories of Tempo, Harmony, and How-Much-You-Liked-It. There will be a prize for the best in each category, with no one winning more than one category. This is for the Master/Mistress and below entrants. There will also be a prize for best round by a bard, judged the same way. Email questions about music or anything else to Poesy at windsofdawn dotty org. First racer to reach the finish line judge wins. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers.
